Before joining the LaLiga team, he participated in only four matches with the Red Devils' U21s and had not yet made an appearance for the senior team. Presently, it seems unlikely that he will have the opportunity to do so, as Benfica is nearing the completion of a deal despite Manchester United's injury crisis. According to Record, the Portuguese champions have a prearranged agreement to acquire the young player for £8.6 million. It is known that there are still "some details to be resolved" before the contracts can be finalized.
The deal's specifics are uncertain, as per Fabrizio Romano, who believes it might still take the form of a loan. This situation arises as Erik ten Hag faces a defensive shortage with players like Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez unavailable. Carreras, a full-back acquired by Manchester United in 2020 from Real Madrid, had a loan stint at Preston in the Championship last season, participating in 39 out of their 46 league games.
Having joined Granada in the summer, he has featured in 14 matches. Despite his contributions, Granada faces challenges in LaLiga, currently dwelling in the relegation zone with only two victories in 19 games. In contrast, Benfica holds a strong position in the Primeira Liga, standing second, just one point behind Sporting Lisbon.
However, they exited the Champions League group stage, concluding below Real Sociedad and Inter Milan.
