However, as per The Athletic's report, he is currently poised to remain at Old Trafford until June 2025.
Manchester United has exercised the choice to prolong his contract by an additional 12 months amidst increasing ambiguity about his future.
Anticipated to depart the club in either January or as a free agent during the summer, Lindelof purportedly declined offers from Inter Milan and Ligue 1's Rennes in August. Instead, he opted to persevere and contend for his position in Erik ten Hag's squad.
However, certain supporters are currently displeased with United's choice to retain him beyond this season.
A social media user expressed, "It's embarrassing! He lacks the required quality; we require players of higher caliber!"
Another concurred, stating, "This is the reason we'll continue in a state of mediocrity, persisting in prolonging contracts for players who fall far short of the necessary standard."
A third individual remarked, "Honestly, I would have preferred his departure; he doesn't meet the standards expected at United."
A fourth commentator expressed: "Should this be an INEOS decision, it appears to follow the usual business approach. It's crucial to adopt a more decisive stance with players no longer fitting in. Lindelof isn't the future, and reallocating his wages could open up opportunities for other players. Finding a sensible buyer in the upcoming summer might be a challenge."
Lindelof became part of Manchester United through a £31 million move from Benfica in 2017 and has amassed 249 appearances since then.
As of now, the Red Devils occupy the seventh position in the Premier League standings, having accumulated 31 points from 19 matches.
